February 2016

Friday 04th March 2016

We hope you all had a relaxing half term, and are looking forward to the rest of the Spring term!

What's been happening at Lynch Hill School Primary Academy in the last month -

Natural History Museum visit

Our Year 6 students enjoyed a trip to the Natural History Museum on Tuesday 26th January.  The children discovered all the museum had to offer, including the dinosaurs, mammals, fossils and more.

Year 6 had the fantastic opportunity to participate in the ‘Evolution Workshop’. This workshop introduced Year 6 to the concepts that underpin evolution. The children were able to examine fossils in the gallery, searching for evidence of change over time and got hands-on with specimens to work out for themselves why these changes occur. The most exciting part was when they played a game that revealed Charles Darwin's theory of natural selection and the mechanism behind these changes.

National Primary Maths Challenge

Congratulations to Lyla Sarwar in 6J and Isa Faisal in 6D who made it to the bonus round of a nationwide challenge for pupils, the Primary Maths Challenge.

Time Travelling Mini Saga Competition

We received some fantastic submissions into our Time Travelling Tales Mini Saga competition recently.  To be included, the sagas had to be 100 words, and could be about time travelling in the future or past. For more information on the competition, visit -

This year, we are celebrating World Book Day on Friday 4th March, when we all have the chance to share our passion for reading on World Book Day on Friday 4th March and dress up as a favourite book character so start thinking about the costume you'll choose so you can become your favourite book character for the entire day! Whether it’s from a fairy tale, a sci-fi novel or a classic story, World Book Day is your chance to create a truly brilliant costume!

All children will :

  • receive their very own book tokens
  • be given the chance to enter fun competitions
  • start our annual Readathon Challenge
  • Have exciting lessons based on favourite authors and the stories we love
  • Enjoy a World Book Day themed lunch of Horrid Henry's Hotdogs, Potter Pie, Danny's Champion Chips, Little Miss Muffet's Muffins and Demon Dentist's Doughnuts …. followed by Fee Fi Fo Fum Fresh fruit!

The children will also raise money on the day which will go towards new library books for the whole school and receive a Book Day voucher to spend on a new book in their local bookshop.

Attendance: BIKES TO BE WON!!

Lynch Hill School Primary Academy is very excited to announce that the children will again have an opportunity to win a bike at the end of the summer term for their outstanding attendance throughout the year.

Each term every child who has 100% attendance will have a ticket with their name on go into the draw. This means each child could have up to 3 tickets for the draw. The more tickets, the better their chances of winning!

At the end of the school year a draw will take place in an assembly where one child from KS1 and KS2 will win the bike and a voucher for a bike helmet.

Therefore please support your children by bringing them to school every day so that they can achieve the best possible outcomes.  Good luck!

Sports Relief 2016

All the children across school will be involved in our fundraising and sporting events on Friday March 18th for Sport Relief. We look forward to your support with this in order that everyone can enjoy a great day at the same time as raising some money for charity.

During the day there will be a sponsored walk, jog or run around the school site, as well as a sporting activities for children to participate in.  These include Dodgeball, Hockey, Basketball, Football, Dance, Netball, Art session creating posters for Sports Relief, Time trials and additional playground games and challenges.

There will be a sporting theme to the day’s Maths and Literacy lessons.

There will be a sport themed lunch available in the canteen.
