April 2016 Blog

Friday 22nd April 2016

We hope you all had a fantastic Easter break, and a well needed rest. We are looking forward to the longer nights and warmer days!

What’s been happening at Lynch Hill School Primary Academy in the last month -

Sports Relief

We raised over £1,000 from our non-uniform day on 18th March, in aid of Sports Relief. Children enjoyed the sponsored walk/jog/run around the school, as well as other sporting activities on offer. They also enjoyed the sports themed lunch and some were fortuitous enough to win some prizes in the lucky dip!

World Book Day

We saw some incredible costumes from the children on World Book Day, 4th March. Creations included characters from Alice in wonderland, Harry Potter and Dr Who. Children also received their own book tokens, entered fun competitions and enjoyed a World Book Day themed lunch including Horrid Henry's Hotdogs, Potter Pie, Danny's Champion Chips, Little Miss Muffet's Muffins and Demon Dentist's Doughnuts, followed by Fee Fi Fo Fum Fresh fruit! You can see our video here

Just before the end of the Spring term, a group of 45 year 5 and 6 pupils enjoyed a wonderful, but cold, week at PGL’s Liddington centre near Swindon. They were able to experience some fabulous activities including: zip wire, climbing, abseiling, Aeroball, orienteering and archery. All the children demonstrated great determination and resilience and were a credit to the school. The staff who accompanied the pupils came back exhausted but filled with praise for the children’s efforts and behaviour.

Y6 Easter School

During the first week of the Easter holidays, year 6 pupils were invited to attend Easter School. Obviously our oldest pupils have to tackle their end of KS2 tests in a few weeks from now and this was an opportunity to receive some additional support and to help build confidence in readiness for these tests and more importantly, for the transfer to secondary school. An incredible number of our pupils attended (over 80%) and worked well in their small groups. A huge well done to them all and to the staff who were willing to give up their holiday time to support them in their learning journey.

Slough Music Jamboree

The melodic Slough Music Jamboree was held at Lynch Hill on Tuesday 29th March. Children participated in a jazz workshop on the day, which was run by “Tomorrow’s Warriors”, a leading music educational organisation. Pupils aged 7 and above enjoyed a day of jazz music and learnt how to play certain songs from the genre.

What we are looking forward to in the next month –

It’s SATs week for our Year 6 children w/c 9th May…

Don’t forget –

Monday 2nd May is a bank holiday so Lynch Hill will be closed – school resumes as normal 3rd May.

With best wishes,

Gillian Coffey, OBE
